FAQ

What people ask most.

Is the free version really free forever?

Yes. Tomic is free forever for two DMX universes, 99 fixtures, 99 cues and 99 sequences. No trial period and no watermark.

Annual or one-time license — which pays off?

€40/year suits a bigger rig or timecode for a season or a specific project. €200 one-time = a lifetime license including updates — it pays off from year five. Both options are functionally identical.

Which version should I choose?

The free version — a club, a rehearsal room, a smaller theatre or an event whose rig fits into 1,024 channels and 99 fixtures. A license — a rig beyond two universes or 99 fixtures, a show on LTC/MTC timecode, a festival, an agency or rental company, and any commercial use.

What if I exceed the limits in the free version?

The free version outputs two DMX universes (1,024 channels) and holds up to 99 fixtures in the patch, 99 cues and 99 sequences. Groups, faders and palettes are not limited. When a limit is reached, the program shows a notice and offers a license that removes the limits. A show loaded from a file is never cut down — the limit only applies to newly added items.

How does the paid license work? Does it auto-charge?

No. No automatic card charges. Order by e‑mail, pay by bank transfer against an invoice and receive a license key — for 1 year, or forever with the one-time license. When an annual license expires, the program reverts to the free version; your shows are kept and the free limits apply.

What's the difference between MTC and LTC timecode?

MTC (MIDI Time Code) arrives over MIDI, typically via USB from a DAW — Ableton, Reaper, Pro Tools, Logic. LTC (Linear Time Code, SMPTE) arrives over an audio cable and is decoded from the audio signal — ideal where the playback runs from a player or from the sound engineer. Tomic does both (Premium license), including automatic song recognition by timecode and a signal indicator in Settings.

Can Tomic be used commercially?

The free version is for personal, non-commercial use. Commercial use (paid shows, an agency, a rental company, a pro lighting operator as a service) requires a Premium license. For non-commercial use, such as an amateur club, the free version is sufficient.

Does it run on Mac or Linux?

Windows only (10 and 11). Tomic is written in .NET 8 WPF, which runs on Windows only. A Mac or Linux version isn't planned — on a Mac, Windows can run in Parallels or another virtual machine.
