System requirements

System requirements and peripherals.

tomic.lighting is designed to be lean and runs reliably even on an older laptop. An overview of hardware, network and supported peripherals.

Minimum Club operation

  • Operating system: Windows 10 (version 1809 or newer) · Windows 11
  • Processor: 2 cores, 1.5 GHz (anything from the last ~10 years)
  • RAM: 4 GB
  • Disk: 200 MB of free space
  • Graphics: integrated (Intel HD / AMD APU is fine)
  • Display: resolution of at least 1024 × 768
  • USB: 1× free port for a USB DMX interface
  • .NET 8 Runtime (bundled with the installer, or installed from Microsoft)
  • Network: any Ethernet / Wi‑Fi (for Art-Net, sACN, OSC and the web remote)

Recommended For festivals and bigger rigs

  • OS: Windows 11 (up to date)
  • Processor: 4 or more cores, 2.0 GHz and up
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • Disk: SSD (faster startup and backup saving)
  • Network: wired 1 Gbit Ethernet for Art-Net/sACN (Wi‑Fi isn't reliable for DMX data)
  • A touch monitor — Tomic is designed for touch operation
  • Multiple screens — Tomic drives up to four (monitors and tablets); use the others for the stage plan, Live or timecode
  • An external keyboard / numeric keypad for faster operation

For visualization Running a visualiser

A visualiser (Capture, for instance) is a separate application with requirements of its own. When it runs on the same computer alongside Tomic, allow for the following in addition:

  • A discrete graphics card (NVIDIA or AMD) supporting OpenGL 3.3 or newer
  • Memory: 16 GB of RAM — the visualiser has a substantial appetite of its own
  • Processor: six or more cores clocked at 3 GHz and up
  • The better setup: a dedicated second computer for the visualiser, linked to the console over Art-Net

Peripherals for Tomic

Supported devices for output and input. None of them is mandatory — a show can also be programmed against a visualiser alone.

DMX output — USB

Enttec DMX USB Pro (original or a compatible clone). Price roughly €15 – €60. Plug‑and‑play.

Note: a USB interface has a single DMX port, and therefore outputs one universe (512 channels). Two or more universes require Art-Net or sACN.

Not supported: Open DMX USB and other cheap interfaces with a bare FTDI chip and no processor of their own — the application only supports the Enttec DMX USB Pro protocol. Clones using that protocol work too, e.g. DMXking ultraDMX Micro.

DMX output — Art-Net / sACN

Any node supporting Art-Net or sACN (E1.31): Eurolite Net‑DMX, Showtec NetBridge, Wireless‑DMX, Swisson XND and others, from roughly €60. RDM requires a node with RDM support.

This is the way to several universes at once — two in the free version, four with a license. All it takes is a node with the matching number of DMX ports, or several nodes on one network.

Controllers

Elgato Stream Deck (XL, MK.2, Mini, modules 32/15/6) directly over USB without the Elgato app, Behringer X‑Touch with motorised faders, Novation Launchpad Mini MK3.

OSC devices

TouchOSC (iPad/Android, ~€6), QLab, Bitfocus Companion, Lemur, Max/MSP or your own app. Communication over the network (Ethernet or Wi‑Fi). OSC works in the free version too.

LTC + MTC timecode Premium

LTC: any audio input (sound card, USB interface) carrying an LTC/SMPTE signal from a DAW, a player or a generator; the L/R channel is selectable and the frame rate is detected automatically. MTC: any MIDI input, typically USB MIDI. External timecode input is part of the Premium license.

Visualiser (optional)

Capture (Atlas / Symphonic) or any other visualiser with an Art-Net input. Tomic sends the DMX data, the visualiser receives it.

Try Tomic on your own hardware.

The free version requires no registration and has no time limit — on your rig or in a visualiser.
